Research activities in the department include an array of basic science and translational research, clinical research, and health services research. The department offers unique opportunities to investigate various aspects of G-I physiology, surgical oncology, vascular biology, transplant immunobiology, cardiovascular surgery, and pediatric surgery. Furthermore, a large number of faculty members of the University are nationally and internationally recognized investigators in the major areas of biomedical research. Therefore, surgical investigators enjoy tremendous opportunities for collaboration and useful exchange of ideas with researchers in other departments.
